Full Time Federal Court Interpreter Position

San Diego, CA

This position is with the Translation and Interpretation Section of the Federal Community Defender Organization for the Southern District of California. An eligible applicant must be qualified by the Administrative Office of the United States Courts as a Certified Court Interpreter for Spanish/English proceedings.

Salary Range: $103,005. - $133,911.
Description of benefits available upon request


Duties include:

• Interpreting in simultaneous and consecutive modes at all stages of a criminal defense case for clients, witnesses and attorneys

• The translation of colloquial, legal, official and technical documents

• The production of accurate transcriptions of evidentiary recordings, including taped law enforcement interviews and wiretaps

• Certifying and testifying to the accuracy of evidence translated from Spanish by other parties

• Word processing expertise and knowledge of or ability to acquire practice in computer audio and video programs used for transcription and translation

Medical Interpreter Needed


Job Title: Professional Interpreter
Description: Requires an understanding of medical terminology, in both English and Spanish. Must demonstrate effective communication skills, problem solving, organizational skills and flexibility in responding to multiple demands.


Salary: $16.00-$18.00


Requirements:
Medical terminology experience
Must be fluent in Spanish/English
Must pass the MHMS Language Proficiency Assessment (LPA)
One to two years of medical interpretation experience
Bridging the Gap certificate or related education
Graduation from high school or GED certification
Excellent writing skills (English and Spanish)
Valid Colorado Driver's License
Hours: 20-25 per week (Willing to assist with office duties when not interpreting)

Certification and Training Expert

Oregon

Court Interpreter Services (CIS) currently has a Certification and Training Coordinator position open and posted on the Oregon Government jobs web page (link below). The purpose of the position is to work under direction to collaborate in applying knowledge and expertise to recommend and implement sound policies and procedures for training, administrative and data purposes. The coordinator will work closely with interpreters in preparation for in-court assignments, providing on-the-job feedback regarding court protocol and professional ethics. The coordinator will make presentations to educate and provide information regarding the Court Interpreter Services program and serves in an advisory capacity on related workgroups and boards. The coordinator will serve on the CIS management team to develop and implement department priorities, goals, and policies.

This position is part of a recently completed classification study, with planned effective date of January 1, 2011. This study may result in a change to the current classification specification and salary range.
