Ethics
Interpreters working in different fields have slightly different ethical rules to follow. In general, however, the following ethical guidelines apply:
- Confidentiality - all information gained in the course of interpreting is strictly confidential and should not be divulged.
- Accuracy & completeness - interpreters should not omit or add anything.
- Impartiality - Interpreters must be unbiased and impartial
- Conflict of Interest - Disclose any real or perceived conflict.
- Disqualifications & Impediments - Convey any concerns regarding ability or conditions to complete an assignment
- Accreditation - interpreters should seek accreditation in their field of work, and truly state their qualifications
- Professionalism - maintain professional demeanor and high standards of conduct at all times.
- Professional development - continually improve skills and knowledge through professioanl training, education and interaction with colleagues and specialists in the field of work
